OOSTHUIZEN FINISHES T60 AT PGA CHAMPIONSHIP
Following a long layoff after withdrawing from the Masters with a back injury, Louis Oosthuizen was back in action at this week’s PGA Championship held at Southern Hills in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Oostie made the cut on the number (+4) and struggled to get any momentum with rounds of 73-71-73-72, which featured 15 bogeys and 2 doubles, leaving him +9 for the week and 14 shots behind the leaders after regulation, Will Zalatoris and Justin Thomas. Thomas would go on to win the event and his second major after birdieing two of the three playoff holes.
Oostie’s next event is widely speculated to be the inaugural event on the LIV Invitational Series, which will be held from June 9th through the 11th at the Centurion Golf Club in London.
OOSTIE GOES 1-2-0 AT WGC MATCH PLAY
Louis Oosthuizen duked it out against the world’s best at the WGC Match Play. The tournament, held March 23-27, featured 64 of the best players in the world and is one of the few non-stroke play events held on the PGA Tour each year. Oostie played the first round against Alex Noren, where he nearly came back from a 3-hole deficit on the back 9, ultimately succumbing to Noren and losing 1 down. In the second round, Oostie played a tightly-contested match against Corey Conners, ultimately losing 2 and 1. Oosthuizen’s lone win came from a concession from Paul Casey, who withdrew at the beginning of the week due to injury.
Louis will be taking this week off as the Tour heads to San Antonio and will next be seen at the Masters in two weeks.
TOUGH PUTTING WEEKEND LEADS TO T62 FINISH FOR OOSTHUIZEN AT VALSPAR
After a solid start at the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook, Louis Oosthuizen stumbled over the weekend and settled for a T62 finish. Opening rounds of 67-68 put Oosthuizen in the hunt heading into the weekend but a cooled off putter and closing rounds of 74 and 73 left him fifteen shots behind eventual winner Sam Burns.
Next up for Oosthuizen is the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play at Austin Country Club, where he will face 50th seed Alex Noren in the first round.
PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE
After a solid start at the Players, Louis Oosthuizen wavered on Sunday to finish T42. For the week, Oostie finished two-under par after rounds of 69-72-69-76, and eleven strokes behind winner Cameron Smith. Oosthuizen collected $73,000 and 14 FedEx Cup points, moving him to 130th in the 2021-22 wraparound season standings. Next up for Louis is the Valspar Championship, which will be played at Innisbrook between 3/17 and 3/20.
OOSTHUIZEN FINISHES T30 AT HONDA
Louis Oosthuizen finished T30 at the Honda Classic at PGA National. The Ocala resident shot 75-65-72-70 for a two-over total, finishing twelve strokes behind winner Sepp Straka. Oosthuizen’s week was deterred at the par 3 15th and 17th holes, part of a stretch known as the Bear Trap, where a few bad swings led to two triples and a double over the four rounds. Oostie was able to buoy his week by making 19 birdies, including seven on Friday alone, and made $43,133 for his efforts.
